All Things Pumpkin!

Crisp Texas autumn weather, local small town pumpkin patches and of course pumpkin spice everything!  What’s not to love about fall?

Have you ever wondered why the big orange vegetable gets so much attention this time of the year?  Or, maybe why and how the pumpkin spice craze got started?

Read on for the answers.

Autumn Traditions & Festivities

You’ll find many farmers growing pumpkins as part of their fall garden. Not only do pumpkins have a lovely orange color that is so fall, but pumpkins have long been a symbol of abundance in fall harvests, and we associate them with our holiday traditions & festivities.

For example, Halloween and carving the jack-o’-lanterns. Pumpkin carving and Halloween came from an Irish fall tradition of carving faces in vegetables to ward off evil spirits. Who knew?

Fun fact: Did you know that large pumpkins or, jack-o-lanterns may not be as sweet as the smaller “pie” pumpkin that many people use for pumpkin pie dessert, but are totally edible and quite tasty!

On to Thanksgiving… Our Thanksgiving tradition is said to originate from a shared harvest meal between Early American settlers and Native Americans, which probably included pumpkins. The tradition eventually culminated in delicious pumpkin pie, which has since been associated with the holiday.

Health benefits: Pumpkins are rich in vitamins A, C, and E and contain antioxidants. They are also high in fiber and nutrients, making it a heart healthy vegetable option (when not made into a sugary dessert).

All things Pumpkin Spice!

The smell of a baking pumpkin pie; cinnamon, nutmeg and clove… will probably conjure up warm cozy feelings of traditions, family and home. The Pumpkin Spice popularity probably came from something like this: a perfect mixture of nostalgia, steeped in family traditions and fun seasonal appeal, anyone?

We’re pretty sure Starbucks didn’t realize how popular the PSL (pumpkin spice latte, in case you didn’t know) would become when they launched the drink in Fall of 2004.

Either way, the popular coffee house did add to the popular pumpkin spice culture and now we have a myriad of products with pumpkin spice smells and flavors to choose from.

Our contribution to the pumpkin spice craze is our all-natural pumpkin spice soap, which smells amazing; just like fall. Also, check our Christmas Spiced Mustang Jam.

Happy Thanksgiving Y’all!
