About Us, Our Goals and Values

We are a beyond organic, family owned-and-operated educational farm in Caldwell, Texas.
We know that God has given us stewardship of the earth and each other, and we take these responsibilities joyfully to heart. We believe that a connection to the land, animals and each other is part of a meaningful life.
Education of our youth is an important goal to us. We want to encourage values and habits that will benefit their lives, and the lives of their families and communities. We encourage a connection to the land and each other as a part of a meaningful life.

We aim to share our food and our learned skills with as many people as possible, including teaching others how to grow nutritious and delicious food, how to enjoy the harvest (cooking), how to preserve the harvest (canning, drying, etc.), and how to use our creative minds to design and build skillful crafts, tools and other items that we use daily.

Work

We value our work. We know that work is sacred and essential to human life. Work is how we make progress, develop self-esteem and pursue meaningful endeavors.

Learn

Through working, we learn. Learn new skills. Learn from each other, from our animals and the environment. Learn the meaning of work, how to grow and what love is.

Grow

By working and learning, we grow. Life is best when it is a constant process of growth. We grow in our relationship to God, in relationship to each other and in relationship to our work.

Love

Love - ourselves, each other, our animals, our plants and our work. Love is where it all begins and ends. We love our creator and we work to teach others about Him so that they can grow and learn about His love and understand the importance of the work that they do.

Our Story Created Our Mission

To educate and become food independent.

Launches Galore

2002: Mike & Elisabeth (Lis) got married, had a baby (Chloe) and a new business in landscaping in Austin, Texas.

Always An Adventure

2003: Mike, Lis and baby Chloe move to South Korea, then Taiwan for teaching opportunities. Living abroad opened up a world-view that most Americans never get to see.

Back To Roots

2006-2014: After saving money abroad, the family moved back to East Texas to be near family. Then, back to Austin to work on more educational endeavors and careers. All during this time, Mike enjoys gardening and planting fruit trees and Lis cooking up the harvests.

Backyard Hens (Rooster?)

2020: This year brought clarified values and a realization that more self-reliance would be a good thing. Taking charge, Mike bought backyard chickens for eggs. Though-surprise!-one, named Blue turned out to be a rooster.

A Dream Began

2020: Because crowing roosters are considered a nuisance in neighborhoods, the family started looking for land to give Blue room to crow. They found it about 15 minutes north of Caldwell, TX.

Be warned! Chickens are the gateway livestock!

Official Opening

2021: Moved to Hope Springs Farm.

Hope Springs Eternal -

"Hope springs eternal in the human breast:

Man never is, but always to be, blest."
